NEW YORK, NY
The site for this project is the 13th floor of an industrial building on the far west side of New York City. The strip windowed building, built in 1929, affords open South and West views. Two offices, a conference room, a kitchen, and a flexible gallery space are required. A very large collection of art books must be housed integrally throughout the project. The project is made up of bookshelves, spanning the entire 12' vertical height of the space. The bookshelves are fabricated of LVLs, an engineered, plywood structural framing member. The same members are used for horizontal spans, to provide shelves. In areas where privacy is not required the shelf modules, top and bottom, are left open. To form private rooms, fixed glass above, and recessed opaque panels below, are used. Recessed pocket doors, within the depth of the shelves, complete the detailing. |
