MARINO/ BOSTICK RESIDENCE
|
EAST HAMPTON, NY
The site for this Summer house is adjacent to a harbor with a large boat population. A plywood honeycomb technique forms the upper half of the house and hopefully establishes its presences within this marine context. The honeycomb method also yields a very high strength to weight ratio, and a corresponding savings in materials. The honeycomb is made of prefabricated, site assembled, marine plywood. Insulation is fit within the pockets of the honeycomb, then paneled over with 1/4” fur plywood. The house is approximately 16 feet wide, 60 feet long, and 15 feet tall. This allows a large, almost double height, living/ kitchen/ dining space. A single height bedroom and bathroom take up the rear portion of the house, creating a large sleeping loft above. A 12 foot by 16 foot full height porch forms the main entry to the house. |
