HOTEL DES ARTISTES APARTMENT

This duplex apartment is on the 13th and 14th floors of the renowned Hotel des Artistes.  The primary focus of the renovation is to eliminate subdivided spaces that were once required by the protocols of a bygone era.  The result is an “excavation” of the primary structure enveloping the space. The modulating effect of this structural system allows the apartment to be otherwise unadorned. Six false columns are added, providing a framework for cabinetry and shelves. Careful placement and alignment with the building structure allows an ambiguous understanding of their purpose. Doors and cabinetry are solid trimmed mahogany, with special incised circular pulls.  This circular motif is echoed in the light fixtures and tile patterns.
