FLOYD RESIDENCE
|
EAST HADDAM, CT
This house is located on a wooded ledge 60 feet above a lake. Its location allows magnificent South, East, and West views. The curved main living space takes advantage of this orientation. It is located on the top floor, which is the main entry level. Sleeping quarters are on the lower level. Three solid stone fireplaces literally anchor the house to the site. The one on the North side of the house is rectangular and begins the entry sequence. Twin triangular fireplaces frame the entry axis and support the umbrella roof structure, allowing the sweeping South vista. The South facing curving glass wall is glazed to the ceiling. It is protected in the summer by the large overhang of the umbrella roof. In the winter the lower sun angle helps heat the interior. |
