BOIGON ADDITION I
|
WESTCHESTER, NY
The tudor style popular in Westchester County is typically characterized by exterior decoration such as oak timber and stone veneer, or diagonal-paned leaded windows. The addition creates a zone of Tudor-inspired construction to the rear of the existing house, using as its beginning point a "window-truss" that combines the structural principle of the open web lattice truss with the transparency of a window. These "window-truss" walls, made of a latticed steel network of angle iron, support the roof of the addition. Outdoors, angles used in pairs each support one joist; inside, heavier angles support a beam that in turn supports the roof joists. The remaining construction is American platform frame. Window and glass door systems separate the addition from the existing house. |
